CANSA Uthungulu arranged a “Jail and Bail”. A number of well known community leaders (all women) were jailed and they raised money for their bail. In addition we auctioned off a number of things on the day to the Boardwalk Shopping Centre’s regulars – Lucy’s vintage used wonder bra not the least of them. We (my co-MC Peter Bezuidenhout who’s dress sense by his own admission needed a little work on the day) used the American auction method. You bid, you hand over your money and then the item goes to the highest bidder. Cheeky but effective. CANSA Uthungulu raised R100 000.
